Thames Riverside
Take time to explore the Gravesham's heritage riverside and to view the variety of shipping entering and leaving the Port from a number of publicly accessible vantage points.
The River Thames, England's most important river, is the lifeblood of the towns of Gravesend and Northfleet and has played a central role in the history and life of the towns and the environs beyond its shores. Even before the Romans founded London, the Thames was a focus for trade and transport, providing a major artery for the country. As such Gravesend is regarded as the gateway into the Port of London.
The River is of great importance to Gravesend today as an operational base for the Port of London Authority and other river-related services and is experiencing a revitalisation with improving public access to the river, new restaurants and bars and additional riverside moorings.
